02/01 CCL Boys Fall in State Cup Final

02/01 CCL Boys Fall in State Cup Final

The 02/01 CCL Boys' state cup run ended on Sunday with a 3-5 loss to SOCA in the championship match.

After 90 minutes of play, and goals from Michael Meese and Daniel Hoffmann the score was 2-2 and went into extra time. The 30 additional minutes were exciting to say the least, SOCA and Legacy exchanged goals in the first 15 minute period leaving the score 3-3 with 15 minutes to play. SOCA scored early in the second extra time period to make the score 3-4. The Legacy boys pushed for that equalizing goal in the last period of extra time but could not find a way past the SOCA defense and GK despite some great chances. SOCA added their 5th goal in an empty net while the Legacy boys had all 11 players in the attacking end trying to score from a corner kick.

"This obvioulsy isn't the result we hoped for but it sure was an exciting game," Head Coach and Director of Coaching Paul Membrino added, "I'm so proud of this team. The boys have truly left their legacy here at the club. Championship or not, this group of players is looked up to, they are role models to the younger generation here at The Virginia Legacy Soccer Club and they should be proud of themselves. Everyone at the club is happy for them, and while it is not the ending they wished was written, their play, their attitude, and their charisma have left a larger impact on the club than any championship could."

The 02/01 CCL boys continue their 19/20 season this sunday November 10th at Warhill Sports Complex vs. the same 02/01 SOCA team. The game kicks off at 2pm and we invite all to come watch these boys (all but 2) in their last home game of their Legacy careers.
