10-9-2007 Community Partnership Update...

The scope and depth of the CP continues to expand. Next spring there will be 10 CP teams in the James City County rec league. 4 schools-James River, Matthew Whaley, DJ Montague and Stonehouse- will have 2 teams each and we will begin programs at Rawls Byrd and Matoaka Elementary. This fall we are meeting with school officials at each location, particularly the two new schools, to refine the plans for the program.

One of the additions last fall was the end of season jamboree. We brought all 6 teams to the War Hill fields for an extra game and then gave each child a certificate of attendance and a one week scholarship to day camp at the WISC. Many of the scholarships went unused-probably because of transportation, so we need to figure that out also for next year.

One of our CP players from DJ attended camps at W&M and Christchurch, and then entered travel soccer as a member of the club’s u-11 team. A female  player from  Stonehouse also joined a travel soccer team.

We also did a one day program at each of our partner schools last January and will do them again as requested again this January at the new locations.

It is our hope to reach also 150 children this spring as we continue to build the program out to its full level of 2 schools at each area elementary school.
