Legacy 76 Takes On Frederick FC

Frederick MD. - May 30th

Frederick MD. – This past Saturday May 30th, Legacy 76 took on Frederick FC at Hood College. Legacy 76 found themselves down 2-0 at halftime by way of individual brilliance from the Frederick side.  William and Mary forward Riley Maw scored the first for FC Frederick 15 minutes in from a 35 yard dagger.  Legacy found only frustration in return as several attempts rattled the underside of the crossbar and only left the squad more determined.

Legacy 76 have begun to find form this season by adding key players Jalon Brown (CNU), Chris Dunn (W&M), and Josh West (W&M) into the mix.  All three of these players played key roles on in the second half.   Quickly into the second half Legacy already began knocking on the door of the Frederick defense.  Legacy finally opened their score line with a clinical goal from William and Mary midfielder Chris Dunn.  Jalon Brown began the play by artfully slipping through the left flank, getting to the goal line, and then finding a ball to the PK spot for Dunn.

Legacy 76 had Frederick on the heels after that goal.  Shortly after, the Frederick center back matched up with Brown, one on one in front of the goal, the result was a vicious tackle and immediate dismissal.  Frederick was down to 10 men with 17 minutes left to play.  With confidence high, the Legacy side began to tactically take over the game.  The Team, led by William and Mary midfielder Josh West, pushed the Frederick side into their defensive third for the remainder of the game. The Legacy fought for the remainder or the game to earn the goal they needed.  With 5 minutes left in the game, a botched counter attack put Legacy 76 into position to punish Frederick.  From the defense, first time starter Korede Olateru-Olagbeg (W&M) drove an exceptional ball to streaking Jalon Brown in the opposite corner, putting the ball just in between the Frederick defense and their keeper who began to close down the angle.  As the ball was delivered, Brown placed the ball in the upper right corner with his head and the score was level at 2’s.

Legacy 76 went on the road and earned a point for coach Kevin Darcy and will repeat the trip again Wednesday June 3rd when they take on the ASA charge at 5pm. Legacy 76 will return home June 14th , 5:00pm at Captains Stadium to play the much awaited rematch against Frederick FC.
