Legacy to team up with Local Soccer Clubs to help in Haiti Relief.
01/29/2010
Legacy Players, Parents, Coaches and Soccer Enthusiasts-
The Legacy has teamed up with local soccer clubs to provide relief efforts for the tragedy in Haiti. Below is an email from the head organizer detailing how you can help. If you are unable to make it to the event, you can drop off any of the approved donations listed below to the VLSC office anytime before 4:00pm on Feb 4th and our representative will be sure to get the donations to the HRSC complex on the event day.
I am sure that you cannot have missed the reports of the terrible tragedy surrounding the earthquakes in Haiti. Several soccer clubs from around the Tidewater area have joined together to undertake a unified effort to raise relief supplies and providing cash donations to The Salvation Army.
Our drive is unique in that we hope to come together in solidarity and provide not only the most immediate and necessary essential provisions for the country of Haiti such as water, clothing and medical supplies, but we intend to leverage our recognition of the spirit of the game of soccer that unites the world. We intend to collect new and excess soccer gear to ultimately make its way to the children of Haiti.
With over half of the population of Haiti being less than 21 years of age, the children of our youth soccer clubs can have an immediate and profound impact for the children of Haiti with your support.
On Saturday, February 6th 2010 volunteers will be on standby to receive all of the requested items at the Hampton Roads Soccer Complex in Virginia Beach. Our collection effort has the backing of The Salvation Army who will ensure that the items reach the children of Haiti. Cash donations can be made on site to The Salvation Army with all proceeds going to the Haitian relief effort.
All in all, the potential exists for over 15, 000 soccer families to partake is this event and it will take ALL OF US to make this a success!
You can drop off any items from the list below at ANY TIME between 9:00AM and 5:00 PM.
Please understand that there is a potential for traffic queuing during this event and we ask that you remain patient and calm if you experience it. Take a deep breath, enjoy the warmth of your vehicle, and remember why you are there in the first place.
As an added bonus, if the complex fields are playable, your soccer player can take part in “Street Soccer” and “Juggling Competitions”. However, in order to make that work, we need to set up times where we can have players of similar ages playing together. If you want to stay for some soccer then check out this time chart.
Wear your team shirt, bring your shin guards, and come out and join us for some fun.
We do ask that you do not bring any food or drink onto the complex on this day.
