NSCAA Convention Recap

Philadelphia, PA - The Virginia Legacy staff and several coaches recently attended the National Soccer Coaches Association of America 2014 Convention in Philadelphia.  Over the years, the NSCAA Convention has been described as the “World’s Largest Annual Gathering of Soccer Coaches.” Convention attendees have expanded beyond just coaches to include administrators, referees, business leaders, players and fans. It is a celebration of a year of accomplishments, new developments, professional growth, and friendships that is wrapped up into our 2014 theme, “Soccer’s Biggest Party.”  The exhibit portion of the Convention annually showcases more than 300 exhibitors covering 600,000 square feet, making it "The Largest Soccer Trade Show in North America."

Our coaches attended sessions run by notable clinicians such as; Miguel Cardoso (FC Shakhtar Donetsk U-21 Head Coach), Dick Bate (English FA), Tony DiCicco (Former US Women's Head Coach), Emma Hayes (Chelsea Ladies Head Coach), Mark Wotte (Performance Director of Scottish FA), along with many more!  The staff was able to observe training sessions, attend lectures, and participate in round table discussions that included various topics, from player development to recovery methods for after a game.

Along with our coaches, All-Americans and Legacy alums, Corey Sindle and Jalon Brown, were in attendance for the NSCAA awards ceremony where they were recognized for their outstanding achievements on the pitch.

On Saturday night several Legacy attendees played in the Walt Chyzowych 4-A-Side Tournament.  Technical Director, Bobby O'Brien, Youth Development Director, Eric Dutt, Goalkeeping Director, Ryan MacArthur, U11 East End Wizards Coach, Jamie Gunderson, and Legacy Alum, Jalon Brown represented the Legacy in the highly competitive, 32 team tournament.  The Legacy went 2-1 in the group stage, and advanced to the knockout stages.  The Legacy went on to outscore their opponents 15-1 and win their next three games before reaching the finals, and losing 1-0 in a tight match.

Overall, the convention was a great opportunity for the Legacy coaching staff to learn, network, and socialize with some of the greatest minds in soccer today.  We look forward to next year when the convention will again take place in Philadelphia.
